How to Convert Oil Sunflower Seed for Making Biodiesel

Making biodiesel is a relatively simple process that can be done in the comfort of your own kitchen. You make fuel much cleaner than petroleum-based diesel that you buy at the gas station. This will allow your older diesel engines with fewer maintenance problems. Sunflower oil is very beneficial to one's health, and contains properties that are considered against cancer. Learn how to make 1 liter of biodiesel from sunflower seed oil is fairly easy. Here's how.

Materials required are:

  • 1 liter of oil
  • Coffee maker
  • Funnel
  • 99% pure methanol
  • 6.25 grams of sodium hydroxide alkali
  • Blender
  • 99% pure rubbing alcohol
  • A large plastic container with lid white
  • 1 liter of water
  • 3 minuma soda bottles 2 liter size
  • Scotch tape
  • Thermometer
How to make:

  1. Strain the oil through a coffee filter to remove impurities.
  2. Heat oil to 265 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes, then set aside to cool. This will remove water that may be contained in the oil.
  3. With a funnel, pour half a liter of methanol into a white plastic container.
  4. With a funnel, pour the lye into the same plastic container.
  5. Mix for one minute until the lye is completely dissolved in methanol. It takes between 10-30 minutes to completely dissolve and turn into methoxide.
  6. Heat oil to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. Use a thermometer to ensure the accuracy of the temperature
  7. Pour the oil and methoxide mixture into a blender, then set on low speed for 20 to 30 minutes.
  8. Pour mixture from blender into a 2 liter bottle. Let stand for 24 hours.
  9. Carefully pour the lighter-colored layer (biodiesel) from the bottle into another container, because it leaves a dark layer (glycerin) at the bottom.
  10. Pour the biodiesel into a 150 ml three bottles of water, then add 150 ml of water. Shake for 10 seconds. If two liquids of different forming separate layers, then you have to make quality biodiesel.
  11. Wash biodiesel by combining with the same water, and shake the bottle. Allow liquid to settle, and then puncture a hole in the bottom of the bottle to prevent water seeping out. Cover the hole with duct tape, pour more water and repeat until the biodiesel becomes clear.

Note:

  • Do not let an alkaline solution exposed to air for too long.
  • Do not use a blender for anything else after making biodiesel in it.
  • Wear protective clothing such as gloves and goggles for safety at all times.
  • This fluid is highly toxic and highly flammable.
